The soldiers of the Demining Engineers Battalion No.60, have already cleared 28 of the 30 municipalities targeted for humanitarian demining in the department of Antioquia.
Yolombó and Santo Domingo are the two new municipalities of Antioquia that enjoy lands free of suspicion of explosive devices.
The operation was carried out with the Non-Technical Studies teams of the Demining Engineers Battalion No.60 which led to the decontamination of 34,549 square meters of Yolombó. In turn, members of the Military Forces found unexploded ammunition in the municipality El Comino, which put at risk the good physical conditions of coffee growers and ranchers in the area.
In the municipality of Santo Domingo, the mine clearance specialists worked more than three years to present 40,734 square meters. It is worth mentioning that five dangerous areas were investigated and in the intervention of the municipality Las Animas they found and destroyed an antipersonnel mine.
It is estimated that about 38,000 inhabitants will benefit in these two towns.
In addition to liberating the territories, soldiers provide information on safe behavior in the event that the inhabitants find or become aware of a new suspicion of an area declared today as free of suspicion of contamination with anti-personnel mines, thus encouraging the community to inform the local and territorial authorities or the nearest humanitarian demining unit.
The work of mine clearance specialists in the department of Antioquia reports 83.3% of progress in decontaminated territories.
