These confiscations represent a damage of more than USD$ 10 million to the finances of transnational crime organizations.
In the course of three international maritime operations, carried out with valuable information provided by the Colombian Navy to the authorities of the United States and Panama, 2,054 kilograms of narcotics were found by troops at the time they were transported to Central American countries. With this new blow to drug trafficking organizations, the distribution and consumption of 2,700,000 doses of illicit drugs was prevented.
210 nautical miles northeast of the city of Manta – Ecuador, the first maritime operation was carried out in which authorities of the Joint Interagency Task Force of the United States Southern Command (JIATFS), guided by valuable information of the Colombian Navy, intercept a fishing ship where they found hidden 900 kilograms of cocaine.
The second operation was reported 85 nautical miles southeast of Punta Mala, Pedasi district – Panama, where authorities of JIATFS and the National Air and Naval Service of Panama (SENAN), with information of the Colombian Navy, found 243 kilograms of marijuana that were found by troops in a Go Fast type boat. Subsequently, in the third maritime interdiction operation 30 nautical miles northeast of the same sector, authorities detect and intercept a second boat loaded with 861 kilograms of marijuana and 50 kilograms of cocaine.
These three results led drug trafficking organizations to stop receiving more than USD$ 10 million, thanks to the coordinated work and interoperability among the countries of the region, within the framework of international cooperation agreements in the fight against illicit drugs.
