On International Women´s day Colombian National Army highlights a brave officer

Captain Rodriguez has been serving the country for nine years.

In a silent but effective work, The Veterinary Medical captain Sulma Cristina Rodríguez Salomón specialist in anti-explosive dogs and troop horses, has as responsibility the health of the animals in the military kennel El Remanso of the mounted cavalry group No.16 Guias del Casanare, of the sixteenth Brigade of the National Army in the city of Yopal, Casanare.

The young officer (35) was born in Tunja, joined her two passions, the love for animals and the love for homeland; she has been serving since 2012. Currently, she is responsible for breeding, conserving the breed as well as the veterinary medical care of 200 mares and 8 equine, males for reproduction, implementing the project of crossing the Arabian horse with the Creole to create the troop horse of the National Army.

In the military field the veterinary profession is not such a well-known specialty, at the national level, they are part of a small group of military professionals that number no more than twelve, but the role they carry out makes them unique, the art of saving and keeping in optimal conditions those beings who, without words, but with much love are at the service of Colombians; it is an act of commitment and nobility.

Her day passes in the nurseries and the military laboratory analyzing samples and taking care of our four-legged animals. Her longing is to become a General of the National Army.

The difficult days of this officer are those when she could not help her patients, with her knowledge and science she struggles to provide the best service, but some of those animals die. Among her most recent and sad stories there is that of the filly Tabata, whose mother dies at her birth; in these moments she is looking for someone of the other mares to adopted this filly, but it is not an easy task. For the time Tabata being is bottle-fed and remains part of the day alone in her crib, seemingly restless, circling and neighing apparently calling her mom.

Captain Rodriguez continues her work for the animals of the National Army Day and night being an example for the other women of The branch and a pride for her familiy.
