The Engineers Construction Battalion No.51 deployed 800 men and 60 heavy machinery units to pave four roads in the urban center of the municipality of Mesetas, in the department of Meta, within the framework of the project called Transversal de la Macarena.

The National Army, through the Engineers Command, coordinates the execution of projects that generate an important social impact and led to meet the objectives planned, which benefit communities in vulnerable areas of Colombia.

The Engineers Construction Battalion No.1, in the southeast of Colombia, was the chose one to execute the project Transversal de la Macaren, which will connect the departments of Meta and Huila.

Lieutenant Colonel Jesús Garzón López, Commander of the Engineers Construction Battalion No.51, said that in 2020, 2.5 kilometers were paved on the road that connect the municipality of Mesetas and Uribe; and in 2021, 2.5 more kilometers will be paved, thus improving mobility in this area of the department.

The operation of the Military Engineers has no limit and always looks for the development of the regions. That is why, in a coordinated work with the Mayor of the municipality of Mesetas and the community, it was possible to pave four streets of the neighborhoods El Jardín and the center of this municipality. This work means progress and new opportunities for its inhabitants.

For his part, the Mayor of the municipality of Mesetas, Yonnier Flórez Mendieta, thanked the men who made this dream of hundreds of inhabitants come true, who day by day were waiting for the action of the State with works that would open the way to a better future.

"I want to thank the Engineers Battalion No.51 of the National Army for the paving of the streets and the roads of our municipality because it is very important for the region. This was a coordinated work, in which the local government and the community made an economic contribution. Of course, it would not have been possible without the soldiers of the National Army, who executed the project to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Mesetas”.

In the same way, the president of the Dairy Association of the department of Meta, Omar Gómez, made a recognition to the National Army and the Mayor of this municipality. "Thanks to these works, the dairy sector will progress, and this means that we can bring our products to more places in fewer time and reducing expenses. This will allow us to have more job offers, which benefit the local economy”, said Omar Gómez. He also said that now they will have a lot of presence in the market of the region and he hopes that works like this happen again in the southeast of Colombia.

The soldiers of the Fourth Division of the National Army only have their eyes focused on moving forward to contribute to Colombia because the nation is their fundamental purpose. By joining efforts with State institutions and private companies it is possible to take important steps towards the progress of the region.
