This individual was the leader of the Julio César Vargas structure of the ‘GAO Clan del Golfo’, and was captured in Montelíbano, in the department of Córdoba, while recovering from an injury. Alias ‘Carlitos’ ordered criminal operations against civilians and the Security forces.
Troops of the National Army, with support of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps), in military operations conducted against crime factors in the departments of Antioquia and Córdoba, and in response to the recommendations of the control agencies, captured the leader of the substructure 'Julio César Vargas', of the Organized Armed Group (GAO) Clan del Golfo.
The military operation was carried out in El Palmar, municipality of Montelíbano, when military of the Army received information from the Civic Participation Network about alias ‘Carlitos’ who would be there. An operation was immediately organized for his search and finding, until his capture. This individual had in his possession a rifle, 92 cartridges of different calibers, more than two million pesos in cash, documents of interest for military intelligence and communications equipment.
Alias “Carlitos”, 36, has a criminal record of more than 10 years in the organization. As it could be established, this individual would be involved in the planning and execution of criminal operations against civilians and the Security forces, in Tarazá and Cáceres, as well as forced displacement of the communities that inhabit these municipalities. He was currently planning criminal operations in support of the structure “Rubén Darío Ávila”, a substructure of that same organized armed group.
This individual in the same way commanded urban structures in charge of the collection of money extorted from the inhabitants of the region and the commercialization of drugs. Alias ‘Carlitos’ has an arrest warrant for conspiracy aggravated with homicide purposes.
With this result, the structure Julio César Vargas of the GAO Clan del Golfo, which has been committing crimes in the sub region of the Lower Cauca in Antioquia, is heavily hit.
