National Navy strengthens security for the end of the year holiday season

In 2018, the Caribbean Naval Force has safeguarded the lives of 379 people at sea.

 

During the end of the year holiday season, the National Navy strengthens security controls especially in the sectors where there is the greatest tourist influx in the departments of Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Chocó, Córdoba, La Guajira, Magdalena, Sucre and the Archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.

Through the 'Navidad Diamante' Plan, military and land maritime control operations are strengthened in the Colombian Caribbean, where it is sought to achieve, in a more efficient and articulated way among State institutions, the effective control of safety at sea, during this time, through maritime, air, fluvial and Ground Combat Battalion patrols in the jurisdiction, control activities in the maritime and coastal zone, as well as in the access roads to the main municipalities of the region, to be attentive to react in front of to any emergency.

Cartagena is one of the cities of Colombia, which receives the largest number of tourists a year, so in high season, the National Navy intensifies its efforts so that the safety of tourists and tourists is a constant in all its beaches.

During the safety plan, pedagogical activities will be carried out through which the aim is to raise awareness among tourists on topics such as the correct use of beaches, the conductance of water sports and the monitoring of safety and self-care norms, among others.

In the same way, in coordination with the Port Captaincies of the General Maritime Directorate, the control of sailing and transit will be carried out of the docks and authorized sites for the departure and arrival of boats, as well as at sea, verifying compliance with the norms established by the Colombian Maritime Authority, such as the use of lifejackets, do not exceed the quota of boats, ensure the existence on board of communication equipment (VHF radio), necessary security and fire protection elements.

Ground Combat Battalion, fluvial and aerial operations

The Navy infantry is committed to the safety of access roads to the main municipalities of the departments of Bolívar, Córdoba and Sucre, as well as to their rural areas. In these zones there are checkpoints, not only to guarantee safety, but in the same way to conduct road safety education campaigns, in coordination with the National Police.

In the rivers Magdalena, Cauca, San Jorge, Atrato and its tributaries, the Infantry Infantry Battalions of Turbo and Magangué, will maintain constant patrols to ensure free river navigation.

The navalized aircraft and helicopters of the Caribbean Naval Air Group will increase constant overflights to support, of the air, the maritime, fluvial and Ground Combat Battalion units of the Caribbean Naval Force and strengthen the vacation safety plan.

On the other hand, in Cartagena, control checkpoints will be planted on the city's access roads and patrols in rural areas in coordination with the National Police.

The National Navy reaffirms its commitment to the security and tranquility of its jurisdiction, while inviting the citizenry to report any abnormal or suspicious facts on the telephone line 146.
