Academic issues strengthening of the Military and Police Forces, greater cooperation in the prosecution of transnational multicrime organizations, as well as the issues of transparency, human rights and gender issues, were the main axes discussed at the meeting held today by the delegations of the Kingdom of Sweden and the Republic of Colombia.
The meeting was attended by Brigadier General Olle Hultgren, military adviser to the Swedish Ministry of Defense and on behalf of the Colombian government, Deputy Minister of Defense Alberto Lara, who highlighted the importance of exchanging experiences and lessons learned with countries that have made more progress than Colombia on these issues.
“We expect Sweden's support for a territorial transformation, support for social organizations, for everything that implies support for our territorial ethnic communities, which are definitely one of the primary objectives of our peace policy, to protect life,” said Deputy Minister Lara.
The current situation of national and regional security of the defense sector was in the same way studied in this space. In the same way, issues such as sustainable development and environmental protection plans in the Military were addressed.
It was agreed to continue promoting the strengthening of human rights, as well as the support for the achievement of total peace throughout the national territory. The importance of the fight against climate change, the protection of the environment and the promotion of the exchange of experiences and good practices to be implemented in the defense sector was recognized.
In relation to the Superior War College and the Folke Bernadotte Academy University, cooperation opportunities were identified to strengthen the resources of the men and women of both countries; a next bilateral meeting was scheduled for 2024 in Sweden.
