With the arrest alias Jean Carlos member of the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 33, the army contributes to the Timely Operation Plan led by the National Government in the protection of social leaders.
The National Army, the Colombian Air Force, coordinated with the National Police and inter agency with the office of the Prosecutor General of the Nation, made effective the order of arrest against alias Jean Carlos for the crime of extortion and conspiracy to commit crimes, when he was in a rural area of Tibú, Norte de Santander.
This individual, accused of being a member of the residual GAO, Structure 33 and right hand of John mechas, would be in charge of collecting the money from extortions carried out in different sectors of the region in Catatumbo, including Mr, Bernardo Betancourt, candidate for mayor of the municipality of Tibú, in 2019, who after this extortion was murdered.
In the same way, he would be committing crimes against social leaders of the region and the community in general victim of constant intimidation by the maximum ringleader of this criminal structure, alias Mechas. The individual arrested and the material found were given to the authorities, who are advancing in their prosecution process.
