Minister of Defense projects this by 2030. The idea is that 21 percent of the Security forces will be trained in the English language
The first course of English instructors made up of 12 non-commissioned officers of the Military Forces and members of the executive level of the National Police, received the certificate that certifies them in Level B2 of linguistic competence, according to the levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference, of the Defense Language Institute of San Antonio, Texas (USA).
"This is a project that aims to make a difference in the way in which the processes of bilingualism in the Ministry of Defense have been handled, and the way in which they are being projected in 2030. What we are looking for with this type of actions is to achieve the objectives of the Defense Sector in terms of certification in linguistic competencies under NATO standards, at the lowest possible costs", said the Deputy Minister for Strategy and Planning, Mariana Martínez Cuellar, in charge of directing policies on education and human resources of the security forces.
The 12 members of the Security forces that approved intensive advance training in linguistic competences with a teaching approach and NATO standards, are now trained to teach and train 780 military annually in the four linguistic skills (oral and written production, reading and listening comprehension) of the English language.
The projection of the Ministry of Defense is to train 16 military and police instructors annually, and by 2026 to have 150 instructors who will massify the teaching and learning of the language in the Training Schools of the Military Forces and the National Police.
With this training project in bilingualism, the Ministry of Defense of Colombia seeks to become a Latin American reference in teaching, learning and certification of languages in the Security forces, and in turn have the first regional center for teaching and certification of the English language, under NATO standards.
