The signing ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Colombian Navy, Admiral Francisco Hernando Cubides Granados, and the Acting Ambassador of the Colombian Embassy in Korea, Mr. Francisco Alberto González.
Colombia and South Korea have a long history of international cooperation, which has led to the forging of economic, security and defense alliances between the two nations.
The Colombian Navy and the South Korean Coast Guard signed an international cooperation agreement with the aim of creating strategies to effectively combat transnational crimes at sea, especially drug trafficking, and also to deny maritime spaces to criminal organizations.
Through the signing of a letter of intent, the two Naval Institutions ratified their intention to continue exchanging information on crimes related to international narcotics trafficking. They will in the same way cooperate in investigations of this type of crime and in the planning of combined operations.
“We propose that the Korean Coast Guard participate for the first time in Asia in the Orion campaign, an operation to combat drug crimes, in which more than 40 countries participate under the leadership of the Colombian Navy. Of course, I hope that a support point will be prepared to block the flow of drugs to Asia,” said the Commander of the Colombian Navy, Admiral Francisco Cubides.
