More than eight hours of navigation on board a Colombian Navy ship were necessary to transfer humanitarian aid from the District of Buenaventura to the village of Veneral, in the rural area of this port in the Valle del Cauca, where an activity was carried out to distribute these elements to its inhabitants, within the framework of the Unified actions of the State.

Through the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2 coordination was carried out with the District Mayor's Office of Buenaventura, the Abrazos del Alma Foundation and the Minuto de Dios Corporation, reporting donations of basic necessities, in search of improving the quality of life of more than 200 inhabitants of the banks of the Yurumanguí River, who have voluntarily returned to their homes after the displacements caused months ago by armed clashes between illegal groups.

The elements were embarked on board the ARC River Support Patrol Boat TECIM Freddy Pérez in the port of Buenaventura, together with military personnel, who sailed for eight hours through the Pacific Ocean and later, on the Yurumanguí River until they reached the town La Primavera, where in a river support boat the troops disembarked the material and transferred it to the Veneral village, where they distributed food baskets, school kits, grooming kits, toys and 252 boxes of food supplements to contribute to the nutrition of minors.

Active presence in the region

In the 2023, the Colombian Navy through the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2 has maintained its presence in the territory, providing the security conditions for the return of its inhabitants, and has dealt decisive blows against Organized Armed Groups and Residual Organized Armed Groups that commit crimes in the area. They have achieved the finding and destruction of three laboratories for the production of coca paste base; the finding of war material, including a rifle, two shotguns, a grenade launcher, eight grenades, a machinegun, 341 projectiles of different calibers and material and military accessories belonging to the mobile column Libardo García of the Residual Organized Armed Group Segunda Marquetalia.

In the same way, in compliance with its constitutional mission of protecting civilians, troops has found and deactivated five Improvised Explosive Devices - IEDs, three tatuco type explosives each with 30 kilograms of Pentolite, a rudimentary or improvised mortar grenade type explosive and a cylindrical-shaped improvised explosive device, with which the illegal armed groups put at risk the life and good physical condition of the inhabitants of the banks of the Yurumanguí river.

It should be noted that the permanent work of the units of the Navy Infantry Brigade No.2 in that sector, has facilitated the return of more than 100 people to the village Veneral and 26 people to La Primavera, where the Naval Institution provides security and trust to its inhabitants.
