Authorities recover six bodies of alleged migrants in Juradó, Department of Chocó

The Colombian Navy in a coordinated effort with the National Police, the Attorney General's Office and the Mayor's Office of Juradó - Department of Chocó, supported the recovery of six dead bodies found on a beach in the sector known as Punta Piña and that, apparently, belong to a group of migrants who were shipwrecked last December 18 in the vicinity of the same place, approximately 50 kilometers north of the urban center of Bahía Solano - Department of Chocó.

The operation for the recovery of the bodies began on December 27, 2021, however and due to the complicated climatic and geographical conditions of the sector where they were found by troops, it had not been possible to recover them.

The bodies, once the proceedings were completed by the judicial authority, were taken to the municipality of Bahía Solano - Department of Chocó, where the corresponding actions will be carried out.

It is important to remember, that the Navy of Colombia since December 19, 2021, conducted through the coast Guard Station in Bahía Solano, search and rescue operations, according to information provided by the community on the wreck, who in the same way said that apparently, the crew of the ship that transported the migrants chose not to give notice to the authorities after the wreck for fear of the legal consequences of the proceeds of crime of smuggling of migrants, for this reason, search and rescue efforts got difficult, as troops did not have accurate information on the number of people being transported, nor who they were.
