This animal, is the largest feline that inhabits America and is currently in danger of extinction.
In the course of naval operations, Units of the Colombian Navy rescue a jaguar that was swimming adrift at the mouth of the León River, municipality of Turbo (Antioquia).
The crew of a rapid reaction unit of the Urabá Coast Guard Station, upon noticing the animal and its state of exhaustion, tied a floating trunk to the boat, trying to get the feline to climb on it. After more than an hour of attempts and waiting to persuade him, it was finally possible to safeguard the life of the jaguar and later move it safely to its natural habitat, in a protected mangrove area, attending the recommendations of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Urabá (Corpourabá).
So far the reasons why the endangered animal was swimming about two kilometers from land are unknown.
In compliance with the Artemisa Plan, the Colombian Navy, through its components in the Colombian Caribbean, will continue to carry out control and surveillance operations over rivers, seas, coasts and protected areas in order to safeguard human life and promote the protection of the environment and its animals.
