Colombian Navy committed to the protection and preservation of the Colombian Amazonas

The Navy of Colombia through the Naval Force of the South, the Direction of Interest to the Maritime and inland Waterways, the Group Colombian Ocean, the Directorate of Science and Technology and the Naval Academy of Strategic Studies, participated in the strategic visit along with the Second commission  of the Senate of the Republic, the Second and Fourth of the House of Representatives, the foreign affairs of Colombia, the Governor of Amazonas, in the city of Leticia, with the purpose of reviewing the exercise of sovereignty, matters of national security and defense, and in turn promote the development in this hydric basin zone of the frontier to guarantee the protection of the natural resources of this strategic territory for humanity and the country.

 

During the strategic visit, presentations and analysis were made on the situation of law and order in the department, the contribution of naval science and technology to national development, the strategic vision of the Colombian Navy regarding the river development of nations and the importance of border rivers in the multilateral Amazon environment, in order to identify opportunities for the benefit of security, wellbeing and national development.

 

In the framework of this activity, the Declaration for the Amazon was signed, a document signed by the participating institutions, that shows the commitment of the State to continue to strengthen the cultural identity of the territory through the construction of policies that ensure the integration of the municipalities of the triple border, and in turn contribute to the development and well-being promoting interconnectivity with other regions of the country, as well as progress in the achievement of the strategic objective of strengthening Colombia as a Bioceanic Sustainable Power.

 

In this strategic visit participated the senators Paola Andrea Holguin and Ana Paola Agudelo: representatives to the Chamber Yenica Sugein Acosta, Astrid Sánchez, José Vicente Carreño, Anatolio Hernández and Gustavo Londoño, Ricardo Montenegro Coral, Director of Territorial Sovereignty and Border Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the rear admiral Harry Ernesto Reyna Niño, Commander of the Naval Force of the South; Jhon Fredy Valencia, Secretary of Agriculture, and department Productivity of the department of Amazonas; and John Palomares, Secretary of Government of the city of Leticia.

 

The Colombian Navy reaffirms its commitment to the protection and sustainable development of the environment that leads the preservation of the Colombian Amazon and in turn contributes to the security of the territory guaranteeing the defense and sovereignty of the nation in the triple border.
