Soldier Dayán Leonardo Ávila Chona, kidnapped by residual GAO

The Command of the Thirtieth Brigade, a unit of the Second Division of the National Army informs:

1.    In the morning of this Thursday the 4th of November, on the way that contacts Cúcuta, Ocaña, near Brisas del Tarra in the municipality of Ábrego, Norte de Santander, citizens who were circulating by this road axis complained that criminals of a residual organized armed group had installed an illegal check point, where firearms were used to intimidate.

2.    These criminals incinerated a truck and shot at an official vehicle carrying a medical mission that had taken care of a military. In the event, Private Dayán Leonardo Ávila Chona, who was driving the car and was in a state of defenselessness, was kidnapped.

3.    This vile and cowardly act is a violation of International Humanitarian law and violates human rights, especially since the military personnel were unarmed and in medical and humanitarian work. The kidnappers belonging to the residual Organized Armed Group who commit crimes in the sector are required to respect the life and good physical condition of the soldier.

4.    This Command has a complete interdisciplinary team to carry out the professional accompaniment to the family of Soldier Avila Chona.

5.    The action has already been reported to the authorities and the relevant operations are coordinated with the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) of Norte de Santander, to find our military.
