Alias el Gordo James is accused of being one of the perpetrators of the murder of Karina García Sierra, candidate for mayor of the municipality of Suárez, in the department of Cauca, and five other people, including the mother of the candidate and candidate for the Council of this municipality, in the month of September 2019.
In the hamlet Naranjal, municipality of Suárez, Cauca, by means of intelligence activities, troops of the Specific Command of Cauca, of the Third Division of the National Army, with the support of the National Police, capture Édgar Quitumbo Peña, an individual alleged to be Gordo James, who would be the right hand of alias Mayimbú, in charge of drug trafficking control, collection of money from extortion, as well as coordinating, with members of the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Mobile Column Dagoberto Ramos, the extraction of cocaine towards the Pacific.
Alias el Gordo James, according to the information issued by the authorities, would have belonged to the 30th front and the Sixth front of the extinct guerrilla group Farc. Currently he would be the second ringleader of the residual GAO, Sixth Structure, Mobile Column Jaime Martínez, in which he would have a criminal experience of more than 25 years.
During the military operation, four more individuals were in the same way captured, apparently in charge of the security of alias el Gordo James. 5 pistols, fragmentation grenades, communication equipment, extortion “tickets” and 35 million pesos in cash were confiscated.
This capture hits the armed, financial, command and control subsystems, supported by the drug trafficking and extortion activities. In the same way, territorial expansion towards the department of Cauca is prevented.
Colombian National Army continues to carry out decisive military operations against this organization, responsible for damages against civilians and the Security forces through flagrant violations of human rights and infractions of international humanitarian law.
