According to military intelligence, the purpose of this hideout was to accumulate war material to hit civilians and the Security forces.
In the course of military operations, troops of the Seventh Brigade, a unit attached to the Fourth Division of the National Army, with the aim of attacking and weakening the logistical and criminal structures of organized armed groups in south-eastern Colombia, found a clandestine hideout belonging to the residual Organized Armed Group, GAO-r, Structure 40.
The discovery occurred at El Mirador path, which connects the municipality of Lejanías with Mesetas, in Meta. There troops found buried among the undergrowth 3 mortar-type launching means of 60 and 81 millimeters, 12 grenades of 61 millimeters and 29 antipersonnel mines of different types of activation, all of this rudimentary manufactured.
This hideout was found near old camp areas and is part of the intention to accumulate material. So with this finding, troops neutralized possible criminal operations against the civilians who live in this sector and the military units that transit the area.
The material found was destroyed under controlled conditions with the help of anti-explosive military technicians, who complied with all the protocols for protecting the environment.
There were no arrests at the site, but military operations continue in the area with the aim of finding those who try to put an end to the tranquility of the inhabitants of the region.
This finding is a clear example of the violation of human rights and international humanitarian law, given that they use explosive devices manufactured as illicit means of war indiscriminately, which directly hits the community and members of the Security forces.
