Four individuals, including two Nicaraguans, one Costa Rican and one Colombian, were captured.
Colombian Navy units in Colombian Pacific waters intercepted a boat manned by three foreigners and one Colombian, in which they were transporting about a ton of narcotics, at the time they were traveling to Central America.
A maritime interdiction operation carried out by Units of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station and the Ship ARC José María Palas, led to the rapid detection of a motor ship, when moving at high speed over the area known as Bocas de Cajambre, in Buenaventura, in the department of Valle del Cauca. Immediately, the Units made a call to the crew of the boat, who upon noticing the presence of the Colombian Navy ignored it and escaped, starting a pursuit at sea.
After being detained, the military officers carried out an inspection inside the motor ship, managing to find 14 black bags and 20 of different colors, with characteristics similar to those used by drug trafficking organizations to transport drugs. In the same way, troops found that the boat stored 300 gallons of mixed gasoline.
The four individuals, including two Nicaraguans, one Costa Rican and one Colombian, were detained, along with the cargo, and taken to the pier of the Buenaventura Coast Guard Station, to carry out the respective judicial procedure, preserving all health measures for the prevention of possible Covid-19 infections.
In the place, the men were evaluated by Port Health officials, verifying the health status of each of the men, who had no symptoms associated with the Covid-19 virus.
Members of the CTI (Technical Investigations Corps), of the Prosecutor's Office, Tested the substance contained in the 1,478 packages, and found the packages contained 597.6 kilograms of marijuana and 278 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.
The drug found during this military operation, whose net weight reached 875.6 kilos, would cost more than 12 million US dollars in the international illegal market. Those captured, who were put into custody of the authorities in the Buenaventura district, must face justice for the alleged crime of drug trafficking, manufacture and carrying of drugs.
With this result, the Pacific Naval Force has found this year more than 38.1 tons of cocaine hydrochloride and 7.8 tons of marijuana.
