After dismantling the criminal group of 24 members of the GAO Clan del Golfo in the Montes de María region, the last month of December, the operation against crime continues. Two women were part of the criminal organization and are responsible for intimidating in municipalities in southern Bolívar.
In the framework of the Unified State operation, in a coordinated operation conducted by the Colombian Navy and the National Police, it was possible to capture eight members of the Organized Armed Group (GAO) Clan del Golfo, in the department of Bolívar.
This resounding result is part of the coordinated operations supported by the authorities, including the most recent, last December, where the successful capture of 24 individuals belonging to the so called “Heroes of the Caribbean” sub-structure was possible, including the capture of alias Bigotes, chief ringleader, presumed responsible for the double homicide of the Velásquez brothers, perpetrated in the municipality of Macayepo, on July 13 and another 12 homicides by means of hitmen in rural and urban areas of the departments of Bolívar and Sucre.
The operation was carried out simultaneously through raids in the municipality of Magangué, Bolívar, where troops of the Military Gaula (Anti-Extortion and Anti-Kidnapping Group) and units of the Police Judicial Investigation Section, capturing six men and two women, who for four years belonged to this criminal organization.
Thanks to the valuable information collected by the intelligence groups of the Colombian Navy and National Police, after months of follow-up, it was possible to dismantle this sub-structure of the Organized Armed Group “Clan del Golfo”, who perpetrated micro-trafficking , extortion and intimidation in the municipality of Magangué, in Bolívar. During the raids, two 9 mm rifles, three magazines, 21 cartridges, a fragmentation grenade, three motorcycles, two cell phones and narcotics were found.
The individuals were put into custody of the Prosecutor's Office No.74 Magangué, for their prosecution, for the crimes of manufacturing, carrying and trafficking of narcotics and firearms; and conspiracy to commit crimes for extortion purposes.
