Nariño. A timely search and rescue operation carried out by Coast Guard Units of the Colombian Navy led to the rescue of three men who had drifted while they were fishing, in Francisco Pizarro, in the department of Nariño.

The events occurred when the Captain of Puerto de Tumaco, was alerted about the disappearance of a gray-and-white ship last Saturday, December 28, which had been last seen on Sunday, December 29, in the afternoon, four nautical miles far from the sector of Punta Cascajal, in the Francisco Pizarro municipality.

Immediately, the situation was notified to the Tumaco Coast Guard Station, a Rapid Reaction Unit was sent in a the search and rescue operation, which, after two hours of intense work, led to the discovery of the motorboat, with the three men on board, who had been lost a day and a half in the middle of the adversities of the weather conditions in the region.

The three men, 43 and 49, along with the boat, were taken to the Tumaco Coast Guard wharf, where a military nurse provided them with humanitarian assistance, verifying their health status, finding them in stable conditions.

According to versions of the rescued, it seems that the wreck was caused by mechanical failures in the boat's engine, when they were fishing in the sector of Punta Cascajal. The men expressed their gratitude to the Colombian Navy for putting their lives safe and for the constant work done in favor of the communities of the South Pacific in the department of Nariño.
