Thanks to a process of monitoring of a sea turtle nest with 160 eggs, military personnel of the Navy along with environmental authorities such as the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the Archipelago, Coralina and the Providencia Group and Ketlina Huxsbill Foundation, guaranteed the hatching of sea turtles, which could be born in optimal conditions to continue their life cycle returning to the sea of the seven colors.

After hatching, the 82 baby turtles were released in the Manzanillo Beach sector on Providencia Island, where they return to their natural habitat, with the necessary conditions for their growth, survival and development.

According to Coralina, there are four types of turtles in the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, which are currently in danger due to their indiscriminate hunting, the destruction and alteration of their nesting habitats and the floating trash that drowns them.

During the year the Specific Command of San Andrés y Providencia has achieved the release of 3,307 turtles of different types in the islands of Bolívar, Albuquerque, Serrana, Serranilla, Roncador and Providencia where the Men of the Navy have received previous training in nest marking, protection and subsequent release of these animals.
