In military territorial control operations carried out jointly, coordinated and inter-institutionally, the National Army, the Air Force, the Police and the Prosecutor's Office captured 15 members of the organized armed group (GAO) Clan del Golfo, for the crimes of conspiracy to commit an aggravated crime, aggravated homicide and forced disappearance, in the department of Antioquia.
Nine of those individuals belonged to the Western substructure, including alias 'Barbas', accused of the crime of aggravated conspiracy and aggravated homicide. This individual was the leader and head of finances from illicit activities such as extortion, drug trafficking and the illegal exploitation of mining deposits in the area. In the same way, it was in charge of the micro traffic, transport of coca base paste, armament and ordering homicides. His capture took place in the village Las Cruces, in the municipality of Frontino.
This 30-year-old man is an element difficult to replace within the structure, given his experience and ability to coordinate plans of expansion, nationally and internationally, for criminal business, and in the same way, his way to plan and execute terrorist operations against the civilian population and the Security forces.
He is related to different selective homicides in the municipalities of Frontino, Cañasgordas and Uramita as an urban member and assassin at the service of the Clan del Golfo. He is in the same way accused of having participated in the armed strike carried out by that organized armed group in 2016.
The second result was the capture of alias 'El Mono' in the municipality of Peque, who was charged with aggravated conspiracy and accused of directing the criminal structure under the command of alias 'Barbas'.
'El Mono', had been in the ranks approximately six years, and would have participated in different terrorist operations against the National Police as the attack on a patrol in the municipality of Buriticá, in March 2011, where a fragmentation grenade was launched, and the attack on a patrol in the same area in the month of April.
Along with these two individuals, eight more of the Western substructure, such as 'Cabeza Cortada', 'Care Mapa', 'Zarco', 'Jefer', 'Brujo', 'Paisita', 'Boro' and 'Barbero' were captured. They are linked to the death of two members of the Farc Political Party in the municipality of Peque in the year 2018.
These last men are known for being "Campaneros", in charge of informing all the movements of the Security forces for the planning and execution of violent operations. They are in the same way recognized for participating in hired assassinations against peasants of the region and social leaders, as well as arranging mobility corridors for war material and military garments for the criminal structure.
In the third operation, it was possible to capture four individuals, a woman included, in Rionegro, eastern of Antioquia, for the crime of aggravated conspiracy to commit extortion, forced disappearance and homicide. These individuals, through threats and the use of force, intimidated the civilian population of the region.
Finally, another member of the group was put into custody of the authorities, this time, a member of the group “Julio Cesar Vargas”, an individual who perpetrated criminal acts in Antioquia's Lower Cauca.
