Units of the Naval School reforested mangrove zone in Cartagena

Bolivar. With the intention of contributing to the mitigation of deforestation impacts and to foster the culture of protection of the aquatic ecosystem, nearly 600 red mangrove seedlings were planted by officers of the Naval Academy of Cadets "Almirante Padilla", in an area of deforestation in the middle of the mangrove area of Punta Recluta, on the Island of Manzanillo, in Cartagena.

With the participation of the Officers Course Command, the Deanship of Maritime Administration, the Environment Office of the Naval School of Cadets, the House of Illustrious Guests and the Naval district of Manzanillo, seedlings could be planted to strengthen the ecological barrier that protects the coastal zone in this area, where the Naval School of Cadets facilities are built.

These mangrove seedlings were donated by the Naval School of Sub-officers ARC "Barranquilla" and the Universidad Simón Bolívar.

The environmental activity culminated with the collection of 1.5 tons of solid waste such as plastics, glass, bags, shoes, among others, which were taken from the mangrove area. This waste was given to a company in Cartagena for recycling.

Mangrove ecosystems prevent coastal erosion, purify water and serve as "nursery" for small fish and larvae, protecting them from being taken by predators, until they reach adulthood.

The Naval Academy of Cadets "Almirante Padilla", as a university of the sea, is committed to the preservation of the environment, for this reason, it carries out operations and campaigns for the benefit of future generations.
