Algeciras, in the department of Huila, in the past was one of the municipalities most hit by violence, it is a strategic municipality with an agricultural potential that for years was coveted by the Organized Armed Groups. Hence its inhabitants are reluctant to repeat the episodes of suffering and for that reason they are in solidarity with their National Army.

There, Major General Nicacio Martínez Espinel, Commander of the National Army, arrived to ratify the message of commitment of the men of the Ninth Brigade with the inhabitants of this town known as the Agricultural pantry of the department of Huila. "I am aware of the problems, the geopolitics and the difficulties of the region and what we want is to become part of the solution."

On his arrival at the High Mountain Battalion No. 9, he met with the mayor of the municipality, Mr. Javier Rivera Cortes and his government offices, the director of Banco Agrario, the representative of the public services company, the coordinator of the Committee Coffee Growers and other personalities, who exalted the operation of the Ninth Brigade, articulated with the administration, to carry out community works.

Similarly, the mayor of the municipality, asked the commander of the National Army for operations that lead to return the tranquility and confidence of citizens, and added that articulated in social and security issues, the results will be compelling. "The best sustainability of Peace, is security. Today the Army means for us, not only a troop that is willing to defend us, but in the same way that partner who lends us his hand, to build the country we want", Javier Rivera Cortes, mayor of Algeciras, said.

In his tour by the municipality, the Commander was in the Municipal Council and in the facilities of the Mayor's Office and firsthand he listened to the most felt needs in terms of security, to then give good news related to the strategies of his men in order to prioritize the municipality, increase trade, and reduce the rigor of the suffering experienced years ago in this important area of the country.

Among the news for the Algeciras there is the arrival of four new platoons of soldiers who will train in the Instruction Battalion based in La Plata, in the department of Huila, to later be incorporated into the most neuralgic areas of eastern Huila, strengthening the operations, in a frontal fight against the presence of Organized Armed Groups (residual) who want to return to their areas and conduct crimes such as extortion, drug trafficking and intimidation.

In the same way, the Officer assured that the Civic Participation Network will be strengthened and highlighted the importance of timely information on the part of citizens, to counteract any attempt to disrupt law and order.

At the end of his tour, General Martinez, accompanied by his military staff, went to the parish of the municipality to give thanks and entrust his men who are always ready to ensure the safety of the territory and the good physical condition of the inhabitants. During the tour he greeted each of the settlers and merchants, ratifying the message: “United We Are Invincible, "Bicentennial Heroes, advancing through Colombia".
