Colombia could train NATO members in demining

cocgfm-logo-mind_0.jpg

Brussels (Belgium). Before the Committee of Associations and Cooperative Security of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Deputy Minister for International Policies and Affairs of the Ministry of Defense, Diana Abaunza, presented the International Center for Demining of the Military Forces (CIDES in Spanish), as part of the certification process of Colombia as a provider of education in demining and Improvised Explosive Devices (AEI).

During the presentation, the Vice Minister highlighted the country's capacities in terms of humanitarian demining and, especially, in the fight against improvised explosive devices, as a result of the experiences and learning of the Military Forces during decades of search for innovation and effective solutions against this type of devices.

Certifying CIDES as a NATO education and training center will lead Colombia to share its experiences and unique capabilities in the world, by becoming one of the centers where member countries would send personnel to train for demining process and learning on AEIs, as an international effort for peace and defense.

The Colombian CIDES initiative was introduced in the framework of the IPCP (Individual Partnership Cooperation Program) a cooperation process that has been carried out with that multilateral organization that is part of the objectives of the National Security and Defense Policy.
