During operations conducted by troops of the Ninth Brigade through its High Mountain Battalions No.9, of Infantry No. 26 and No. 27 "Cacique Pigoanza" and “Magdalena” and of Artillery No.9 "Tenerife", in 2019, 136 hectares of illicit plantations have been eradicated, which apparently have been planted by Organized Armed Groups, in rural areas of the departments of Caquetá and Putumayo.

According to statistics provided by the military units, in the rural areas of the department of Putumayo, where most of the troops have been eradicated, to date 111 hectares, followed by the rural area of the department of Caquetá with 24 hectares.

The operation of the Army in these areas of the country directly hits the finances of the Organized Armed Groups, which support their criminal activity in the drug trafficking business.

The manual eradication program of illicit plantations of the Government of Colombia, together with a series of military operations, has led to mitigate not only drug trafficking, but the contamination of soil, water and air, which puts the diversity of forests and the health of Colombians at risk.

Meanwhile the Bicentenary Heroes and the eradication tasks will keep their course, as a strategy of the military Forces, to combat the illicit plantations of this region of the country, continuing to fight against drug trafficking and contribute to the mission of defending the good physical condition of the territory generating an atmosphere of peace and security.
