National Navy saves the lives of three people in the islands of San Andrés and Providencia

Coastguard units of San Andrés and Providencia, in a search and rescue operation, save the lives of three people in the island region.

The first rescue was carried out two nautical miles east of San Andres Island, where a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coast Guard Station of San Andrés, detected a ship called 'Small Man', which was adrift with a crew member on board. The 29-year-old man from Colombia, said he was adrift and without communications. Immediately, the rescue maneuver and towing to safe harbor was carried out.

The second rescue operation was carried out at 6.7 nautical miles of the southwestern lighthouse of the island of Providencia, where a Rapid Reaction Unit of the Coastguard Station of Providencia, detected an unnamed ship, with two crewmembers of Colombian nationality on board, who claimed to be adrift due to engine failure. After serving this crew, the rescue and towing maneuver to a safe harbor was in the same way carried out.

The three people rescued were in good health, so they did not require medical assistance.

The Specific Command of San Andrés y Providencia will continue to contribute to the national maritime power, ensuring comprehensive maritime security and the protection of human life at sea. In the same way, it reminds the owners of the ships sailing in the Islands region, to have the documentation required by the maritime authority to exercise their movements, since in these two cases, none of the motor ships met the regulations.
