A platoon of prevention of fires and assistance, made of 40 soldiers, worked during the previous night with men of the Body of Firemen and Civil defense.

Bello, Antioquia. The National Army works accompanied by disaster assistance and prevention agencies in the northern zone of the Aburrá Valley and the National Risk Management System since Thursday night, January 3, to extinguish a forest fire that occurred in the mountain Cerro Quitasol, in the municipality of Bello.

The flames, which until now have consumed an approximate of 40 hectares, are being extinguished by a platoon of prevention and assistance of fires of the National Army. This same task was complemented by more than 30 men of the Fire Department of Bello, 25 people of the Colombian Civil Defense and an aircraft of the Colombian Air Force, who are carrying out spraying work on the hit areas.

In the early hours of Friday, January 4, the flames had been controlled almost entirely, but due to the high temperatures that occurred during the morning, they activated again. Thanks to the constant monitoring that the National Army has carried out in the sector, all disaster response and prevention agencies were notified to resume operations and thus completely extinguish the fire.

The work of the platoon of assistance and prevention of fires of the National Army has been oriented to control more than 10 centers of ignition of high and medium intensity, a work that has been carried out in a coordinated way with the Firemen of Bello and the Civil Defense. More than 90 people work hard to make the water supply possible so that the Air Force have a greater efficiency to put out the fire as soon as possible. The construction of defense lines is in the same way carried out to safeguard the native forest of the hill Cerro Quitasol.
