Navy and Police provide humanitarian assistance to 61 irregular migrants in the Gulf of Urabá

Antioquia. In recent hours Units of the National Navy, in coordination with the National Police, provided humanitarian assistance to 61 irregular migrants who were abandoned at the sea by the “coyotes” that transported them.

According to the preliminary versions provided by the migrants, from Bangladesh, Brazil, Cuba, Eritrea and India, including four minors of age and a pregnant woman, after crossing the Gulf of Urabá, at Cabo Tiburón, they were thrown to the sea by the pilot of the boat and his assistant.

Some were helped by fishermen of the area and the others arrived by swimming to the coast, from where they undertook a walk to the village of Sapzurro, where they asked for help of the Coast Guard Post and the Police Station, who immediately gave them humanitarian assistance.

When the group was reunited they realized the lack of one of them, so the Coastguard Units immediately undertook a search operation, until they found his body.

The 61 migrants were taken to the hamlet of Capurganá where they were put into custody of Migración Colombia.

This unfortunate event happens presumably due to the transit in unauthorized hours of a boat carrying 62 Irregular Migrants from the municipality of Turbo to Central America.

So far this year, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force No.73 "Neptuno" has rescued more than 446 irregular migrants and has captured 28 individuals in 17 operations against the crime of illegal trafficking of migrants.
