5,012 people of the communities of the Colombian Orinoquia, benefited with medical services and humanitarian aid.
In an inter-institutional work to bring comprehensive well-being to the coastal communities of the Orinoquia, the humanitarian campaign Sailing to the Heart of the Orinoquia 2025, led by the Colombian Navy, in coordination with State and non-governmental institutions, which benefited with free medical assistance to more than five thousand people from villages in the department of Meta and Vichada
The campaign, which coordinated the work of public and private institutions, positively impacted 5,012 inhabitants of the communities of Puerto Gaitán and San Miguel de Pescadero, in the department of Meta; and Santa Rosalía, in the department of Vichada, who access medical services in pediatrics, gynecology, physiotherapy, psychosocial counseling, as well as self-care and wellness spaces, veterinary care, recreational activities and free distribution of nutritional aids.
In order to reach these three communities, a displacement of 185 kilometers was made on the Meta River, aboard the Light River Support Patrol Boat ARC Julio Correa, a unit of the Navy Infantry River Battalion No. 51, in charge of transporting 20 health professionals and five tons of humanitarian aid. Within the framework of this campaign, 6,218 units of food supplement were in the same way distributed and 281 domestic animals were assisted.
This activity was possible thanks to the coordinated work conducted by the Colombian Navy, the Mayors of Puerto Gaitán and Santa Rosalía, the Ombudsman's Office, the E.S.E. Local Hospital of Puerto Gaitán, the Colombian Aerospace Force, the Meta Visible Foundation, the Colombian Family Wellbeing Institute -ICBF-, the National Civil Status Registry office and the National Learning Service -SENA-.
The Colombian Navy, through the Orinoquía Naval Force, will continue to count on river resources and human talent, ratifying its commitment to social development and improving the quality of life of villages living in hard-to-reach areas, where the river is often the only means of communication. In this way, it contributes to River Governance and Human Security in the region.
