Infantry units of the Colombian Navy, within the framework of a joint operation with Colombian National Army, found and destroyed an Improvised Explosive Device – IED, planted, apparently, by the Organized Armed Group Clan del Golfo, in the village of El Guineo, the municipality of Riosucio, in the department of Chocó department, putting at risk the life and good physical condition of its inhabitants and violating Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law norms, of this community.
After finding the IED, which was made of two Indugel-type explosive sticks, weighing approximately half a kilogram each, specialized anti-explosive troops of the Military Forces proceeded to destroy it in controlled conditions.
It is estimated that, if detonated, the device would have generated a lethal damage radius of more than five meters around.
It is presumed that this explosive device, had been planted by members of the Pablo José Montalvo substructure of the GAO Clan del Golfo, in order to hit the troops of the Military Forces in the area who carry out operations for the safety and tranquility of the inhabitants, in this important region of the country.
