Member of the GAO ELN voluntarily surrendered to Colombian National Army in Santander

Este año se han presentado de manera voluntaria ocho integrantes de diferentes GAOS ante unidades militares de la Quinta Brigada.

This year, eight members of different GAOs have voluntarily surrendered to military units of the Fifth Brigade.

After 9 years and thanks to the demobilization campaigns, this person found in the process the possibility of rebuilding his life from legality.

A member of the Edgar Almílkar Grimaldo Barón front, of the Organized Armed Group, GAO, ELN, which commits crimes mainly in the municipalities of Remedios, Segovia and Yondo, in Antioquia and Cantagallo, south of Bolívar, voluntarily looked for the troops of the Field Artillery Battalion No. 6, in Barrancabermeja, Santander.

This individual, who had been in the armed organization for nine years conducting different intelligence tasks against members of organized crime groups and the organized armed group,  GAO, Clan del Golfo, is now receiving accompaniment to rejoin civilian life.

During this year, eight members of the different organized armed groups, such as GAO Clan del Golfo and the residual armed group, have in the same way voluntarily demobilized in the military units of the Fifth Brigade, as a sign of confidence and response to the demobilization processes and campaigns that contribute to the construction of peace.

Colombian National Army reaffirms its commitment to respect for human rights and international humanitarian law, and at the same time continues to carry out demobilization campaigns through media such as loudspeakers, radio spots and brochures, to encourage members of organized armed groups to decide to start a new life in legality.
