Minister of Defense announced strengthening of security in Casanare, Boyacá and Arauca

Mindefensa anunció fortalecimiento de la seguridad en Casanare, Boyacá y Arauca

The Colombian Navy announced the arrival of four river surveillance boats.

The army and the National Police will increase their presence on the roads of the departments of Casanare, Boyacá and Arauca to fight crime.

Civil authorities requested an increase in the number of units for the region.

At the end of a security council led by the Minister of National Defense, Iván Velásquez, in which regional leaders of the departments of Arauca, Boyacá and Casanare in the same way participated, the law and order situation was analyzed, as well as the challenges in terms of citizen security of the inhabitants of this region of the country.

“The governors of the three departments have a common problem in several aspects, that's why we agreed that it was appropriate to make a council like this to treat them with a regional vision. Shared by the three governors there is a purpose of regional integration and thus propose equally regional solutions that include all these territories," Minister Velásquez highlighted.

This meeting with civil, military and police authorities held in Yopal (Casanare) led to jointly identify the most pressing security needs in this region of the country, such as increasing the number of units, strengthening electronic surveillance through security cameras, fighting extortion and other high-impact crimes.

"River control has been a constant concern of the Ministry of Defense and the National Navy. Precisely next week four boats will arrive for river control. We intend, as Government, to be able to strengthen as much as possible the control in the rivers that, for territories like this are in the same way very useful highways for crime and its criminal activities, so the Military Forces have to carry out all their capacity to expand that control, ” the Minister informed.

Finally, the Army and the National Police committed with the governors and local authorities to increase road operations to prevent the transit and trafficking of narcotics, as well as actors of criminal groups that seek to destabilize the region for economic purposes associated with illegality.
